Our 11th Birthday
18 May 2008, 11 years ago we were founded. We have an interesting journey to share with all our connects on this email circuit.
As I look back, I divide this journey in 4 phases. Phases of failures, recognition, rejections and triumph.
3 years of Failures
We started in a 300 sqft office with a team of 6 risk taking people. Our first product was dismal failure. We never had hardware in our minds or designs. Our solution was meant to preserve and protect enterprise data directly on cloud. In those days, cloud was an impractical idea. Internet was thin and unreliable. This was the first time we drained all our money and struggled for survival. But we always saw light at the end of the tunnel.
Moment of Recognition
We developed a prototype hardware to solve all problems leading us to failure. We participated in India Innovates Growth Program in 2011, received gold medal and cash prize. We were noticed and recognized by Department of Science and Technologies, FICCI, University of Texas, Indo US Science and Technology Forum. We gained confidence. We got seed funding and incubation from CIIE – IIM Ahmedabad followed by investment by structured Angel Networks.
This recognition was enough staple for us to take on the rejections we started facing.
3 years of Rejections after the recognition
As we claimed, you don’t need expensive hardware and bear unreasonable license cost to standardize your IT. Our single hardware served as all IT systems, like Firewall, File Server, Mail Server, Domain Controller, Storage, Backup System and End Point Security.
It was rejected by traditional solution providers though it was slowly tried, tested and admired by first breed of our customers. We added tremendous value to this product by making it a full proof solution against Data Loss (from deletion, ransomware or disaster) and Data Theft (through internet, email and USB).
5 years of Exponential Adoption and Emergent Brand
Our customers realized the value and spread the word that there is no need to spend so much on license, hardware, complex DLP solutions. Riding on this overwhelming wave of popularity among SME customers,
BLACKbox has now become a brand with thousands of happy customers and tremendous value realization in the hands of end customer.
It took 11 years to happen, but feels like it is just a beginning.
I thank all early adopters, customers, critics, believers, investors, to have accompanied us in this journey. No words can express the contribution of our fantastic team setting new standards, paving new trends and executing bold R & D strategy.
